Carrier

Carrier is the latest in a line of acclaimed projects from British producer Guy Alexander Brewer. It operates as an open-ended framework for sound, drawing on a wide spectrum of electronic music while resisting fixed genre identity in favour of atmosphere, pacing and space. 2023’s Lazy Mechanics introduced a stripped-back soundsystem logic and fragmented rhythms, followed by Neither Curve Nor Edge, which pushed this into something more measured and precise. FATHOM, released on Fergus Jones’ FELT imprint, moved further into dense polymetric structures and submerged textures, while In Spectra and Tender Spirits refined this approach into a more distinct vocabulary shaped less by genre than by atmosphere and intent. This approach reached its most complete expression with Rhythm Immortal, released on Modern Love in 2025. The album distilled a language developed across recent work into something more precise and self-contained, shaped by restraint, clarity and emotional weight. Pitchfork described it as “carefully eroded, like weathered concrete... where patient pacing and bruised atmospheres linger long after the tracks end,” while Resident Advisor noted its “immersive but elusive” qualities, “dense with implied rhythm and melody, but never quite letting you grab hold of anything.” Boomkat framed the work as unfolding within “low-lit spaces between ambient, dub techno, and minimalist composition,” where “every element [is] carefully weathered, placed, and ghosted back into silence.”
